Over the timespan of roughly a year, Zack.ai managed to go from the first ideation phase past MVP and beta testing to a regularly iterated live product loved by millions of users.
It not only continued with useful features where the company’s previous vertical products for specific esports games ended but also pulled the separate user groups together with a more holistic approach, maximizing usage time by covering all game-phases and a broad catalog of supported games.

Problem Statement
After the Company had launched several successful vertical products covering the depths of top played competitive games at the time, it became clear that the effort to identify & create the next product in line was likely not profitable enough, despite the brand, design system & basic feature set from the existing products.
Since the freemium monetisation model of the existing verticals was doing well enough but was still only purchased by a small fraction of the separated user-groups, the need for a more holistic approach was clear — unifying the user-bases, maximising usage time & ditching the freemium model for a big-data approach.

In conclusion the goal was to not only cover a way wider catalog of supported games but also making sure the product covered as many needs around the process of gaming as possible in order to gather the maximum of users & data to analise, utilise and monetise later on.
Since this was a "companies first" without a clear indicator of profitability — a closely watched and iterated MVP & Beta approach was the option of choice.

With this foundation of insights the MVP focussed on the following two main drivers for product success:
Maximise the user group by supporting as many games as possible
•
various support levels per game (Base support: News, patch-notes, selected Youtube clips • Advanced: basic in-game data available for basic analytics • Top Tier: live-features and detailed reports)

Zack.ai is an intelligent gaming assistant that enables the user to focus on what matters most - enjoy gaming! He collects various news about the users favorite games from around the web, decides on what matters most for the specific user based on his preferences and delivers it in easily digestible bits.
A big goal from the very beginning was to really bring Zack to life and give him a distinct character so that the assistant experience would feel as real as possible — like a personal conversation whenever the user interacts with him.

This was the perfect place to integrate some well crafted micro animations even though they were mainly attached to a speech bubble in the early and fast paced stages of the product. The difference in the characters perception really felt like an upgrade.

We experimented early on with a more assistant-guided user experience to shape the platform just as much as the assistant brand itself. The early alpha version of the onboarding below demonstrates this vision quite nicely.

Interface Evolution
Interface Evolution
To satisfy the main goal of small and compact bits of news, a feed view with smart cards was the clear choice for both visual & information architecture reasons. In pursuit of a perpetually minimalistic & clear interface, constant iterations of both the card UI & UX were necessary. Content became richer, interactive and more enjoyable to consume.

One of the biggest factors that enabled us to constantly iterate & improve the product experience was a clearly structured & flexible atom design system. Cleverly nested symbols/components, clear naming conventions and a design library as a visual representation of the atom structure were our best friends.

To develop even better coverage of all the 3 game phases, we created a separate mobile-app and focussed on the separation of platform-specific use cases to generate more depth of information only where needed.
The mobile news-feed became focus for a maximized ease-of-use & fast consumption, while detailed strategies & game analysis received a more prominent role on dedicated per-game dashboards for the desktop client.

In-house Marketing
In-house Marketing
Even the marketing efforts were constantly revamped on the basis of user feedback and various KPIs from our in-house analytics team. The landing page evolution a great example — it went from a minimalistic signup page in the alpha-phase to a detailed description of the product USP and introduction to our platforms including desktop & mobile.
The complexity of the markets prescription / reimbursement system had to be tackled through a well structured and extensively guiding customer journey that enables multiple entry points (doctor referrals, self-managed, etc.) and confidently guides the user with supportively chunked steps, reminders & info material.

Content Creator cooperations
Content Creator cooperations
In addition also we picked up on our marketing-learnings from previous products and combined clear introduction trailers from our own domain with personalised product-placement segments in cooperations with various gaming focussed content creators to reach our widely spread target audience.

Over the timespan of roughly a year Zack.ai managed to go from the first ideation phase past MVP testing and beta phase to a regularly iterated live product loved by millions of users.
Unfortunately, the concept of a delayed monetization through big user/usage data didn't develop enough traction — leading to closure of the complete user coaching oriented B2C section to cut costs and re-focus on the companies B2B business with its products Shadow.gg (nieche market of professional esports coaching) and BAYES (cash cow of analysing and selling game betting odds).

My 3+ years working with Dojo Madness have been filled to the brim with learnings about both, what makes a successful product go from 0 to 1 but also that well thought out financial concepts still is the key to enable long term product and business success.
The final year of creating Zack was condensing all this to cliff notes for a better understanding on how to balance user- & market needs with business requirements through not only well crafted UI/UX and product design but also company-wide ideation, alignment & cooperation.

Beni played a key role at Dojo Madness, both for the team and the company. He took full responsibility for the design team and really managed to support both the people and the business side.
I always appreciated how independent and reliable he was—he kept things running smoothly while also bringing in fresh ideas for new projects and branding. On top of that, Beni was super easy to work with: clear in communication, humble, and always supportive.

Beni was one of those rare designers who really understood how to work with tech.
He had a strong product mindset, always thinking a few steps ahead and making sure design decisions made sense for both users and implementation.
Working with him was smooth — he was well-organized, open to feedback, and focused on finding solutions rather than getting stuck on problems. Plus, he brought a really positive and supportive energy to the team, which made a big difference in day-to-day collaboration.

Beni had a big impact on my growth as a designer. He always took the time to give thoughtful feedback and created a space where I felt safe to learn, try things out, and ask questions.
What stood out most was how he led by example — staying calm under pressure, thinking through problems with care, and always keeping the bigger picture in mind.
He was approachable, supportive, and genuinely cared about helping others grow.
